Welcome to Reception – Volcano Class

|
This week we will be continuing our work on the popular story ‘Jack and the beanstalk’. The children have made their own giant beanstalk in class and they are enjoying acting out the parts. The children will be completing challenges to practice reading and writing phonemes, reading and matching rhyming words, They will be making story maps and writing their own version/parts of the story.
In phonics the children are practicing writing and spelling words with ch, sh, th, ng, digraphs.
The children have been planting seeds and experimenting to find the best conditions for our own beanstalks to grow in!
The children have also been looking at communication in the past. They have explored an old candlestick telephone and some different telephones from the past. If you have an old phone particularly an old dial phone we would love to use it in class please!
In maths, the children are ordering numerals to 20 and beyond and working out missing numbers,
We regularly make play dough and this week the children will be making their own playdough. Last week they cooked and ate different types of eggs and completed a survey to find the most popular. A voluntary donation of £1 would be greatly appreciated to help cover the cost of cooking materials and resources to help keep our curriculum varied and exciting for the children. We will put a voluntary donation box outside the class door. Thank you for your support!
